3 Simple Questions for Clarity and Precision

This week, we’ve been considering how to make what remains of 2018 strong and powerful.  At Making Teams Work, we’ve been running Q4 Assessments for various teams who are refocusing on using the next 3 months to wrap up the year and prepare a foundation for 2019.

We’ve asked pertinent questions that allow us to assess what’s worked and what hasn’t.  We’ve looked at what we need to achieve in the next 3 months to achieve clarity for what comes next in 2019.  We’ve looked at who’s responsible for what.

The fourth quarter can be somewhat of a sprint where our annual goals become too broad to be of use.  The nature of Q4 requires precision and refocus to avoid overwhelm and paralysis.  Stop, Start, Continue is a simple, yet powerful way of assessing what to pay attention to.

It’s as easy as asking the following 3 questions:

  1. What do we need to STOP doing that’s taken too much energy, time and focus for the reward it has produced?
  2. What do we need to START doing to add focus, clarity, precision and priority?
  3. What do we need to CONTINUE doing that’s really worked for us this year?

Grab a coffee.  Take a break.  Consider the answers to these 3 questions.  Ask your team.  Maybe even these questions at the dinner table this weekend.  You may be surprised by the varied perspectives of the others on your team.
